Raw Gem not registering as in bag during Frankenstein quest

During Victor Frankensteins quest, I attempted to use the Raw Gem (Tier 1 Automaton Rook) needed by picking it up from my storage/a voragers steamer trunk, however it wouldn't accept that it was in my bag until I dropped it on the floor and picked it up that way.
