"Remove" option in building edit mode glitches out

Summary:
Sometimes when I hit X (my keybind to go into building edit mode), the Remove option doesn't work. I have it mapped to Left Control on a gaming keypad, if that makes any difference. When this happens, the Remove trash can icon shows a horizontal line next to it instead of the keybind.

Issue:
"Remove" keybind sometimes corrupted and stops functioning to delete house items.

Steps to reproduce:
This is an INTERMITTENT bug. I have not found exact circumstances to consistently reproduce the issue.
Hit X to go into edit mode.
Hit L.Control to delete items.
Observe that the keybind shown in the edit mode for Remove, next to the trash can, is a horizontal line.

Expected result:
Item is deleted.

Actual result:
Character dodges.
