It's great that the gear system is really getting nailed down but it's really boring and doesn't give any sort of sense of progress. For example, trying to get prey pelts most of the time is just such a pain and there's nothing you can do about it. I can't grind against predators and level up then raise my speed stat to catch up to them. I can't use my gun more and get some kind of gun proficiency to improve accuracy and or range so you can actually hit something with it. I can't learn any special skills or abilities. I just get to walk, run, jump, and craft. This makes the game loop really dull, really fast. The game is gorgeous though, the realm idea is unique and fun, and the story is engaging, so I do want to play but every time I go to play it, it's just a slog between the good parts. Honestly the only other complaint I have is that the stamina system sucks
I agree, I would like to add that having some sort of leveling or character development beyond the equipment system gives one a sense of connection their character, something that feels like it is missing from an otherwise fun game.
